My mom was a restless spirit when I was young. Growing up we moved every couple of years, North Carolina first, then California. We lived in small towns mostly, but even as a kid I longed for the art and fashion of the city. It was tough making friends, but i never felt alone with art. Drawing and painting gave me a constant home and making jewelry let me take it anywhere to share it. Everywhere we moved, we explored. I found a rock to wrap, or a flower to press, wearing travels around my neck like a badge of mystery beckoning strangers to talk or buy something so I could afford a new tool.

When I became a single mom at 25, I looked at the fashion world in a different way. I didn't see the glitter and fantasy I once loved. I saw trash islands forming in the ocean, chemical dyes polluting our drinking water and millions of tons of fast fashion in landfills. It was a punch in the gut, fashion had been such a big part of my life for so long and it was contributing greatly to the destruction of the world I brought my son into. I knew that I wanted to be a part of the solution, how hard could it be?

Very, but years of determination and dedication to susainability have led me here to build Follow West.
